Why I Love Vitamin D

Posted by Samantha on December 26th, 2011 . Filed under: musings .

I have been taking Vitamin D3 for the last three weeks. It is now a constant in my routine and will remain that way!

Why I love Vitamin D!

  1. It gives me get up and go.
  2. I don’t feel like I’m fighting PPD off with all my strength.
  3. I have an easier time handling Roghan’s outbursts, like mentally. A teething kid is no easy task.
  4. It makes Roghan have LESS outburts.
  5. Prevents rickets in my Roghie.
  6. I don’t have to supplement Roghan since it passes through my boobies!
  7. I can get it for free by hanging around in the sun. ;)
  8. Cuts my chances of getting the flu.
  9. Therefore, Roghan’s chances are cut.
  10. It’s super easy.

Vitamin D is pretty darned awesome. It’s one of the only things you can control about your breastmilk and supplementing mom is a fairly inexpensive route as well as easy. I don’t know how other kids are, but mine fights me about anything pertaining to his mouth. This method works for me! Kellymom recommends 2-4K iu in mom to have enough for baby in her milk, I read another site that says you need 5K iu and another that says 6K iu. I take 4K iu.

If you decide to supplement, (which you should!) then make sure you take D3 not D2, as D2 does not process as well as D3 and may even be harmful.

Vitamin D is the sun vitamin. You can naturally get it just by spending time in direct sunlight. Not though a window or with sunblock on… What I think is much less than a coincidence is that when Winter comes around, flu season begins. People stay inside, the days get shorter and covered in clouds. Suddenly, people are falling ill. Perhaps they are deficient in Vitamin D since they lost the sunshine! And maybe, just maybe, that Vitamin D is what has been keeping the flu at bay in the off season. Hmmmm.

Vitamin D has lots of supposed effects that are not proven but suggested, and hey, if you have a problem that vitamin D might solve; it’s worth a shot! I compiled a few resources for you to take a look at and make a decision for yourself if you want to take on regular vitamin D in your diet!
